Lisa was introduced to Brain Gym®,
and subsequently began using it in class, after an INSET held at her school in 2002. As she began to use it, she was so impressed with the positive effects on her pupils’ concentration, learning and progress, she began teaching part-time in order to train further in Brain Gym®. She qualified as an Edu-K Consultant in 2008 and became a Brain Gym® Instructor in 2015.
Between 2008 and 2014 Lisa’s School applied for and was successful in gaining funding for Lisa to use one teaching day a week as an Edu-K consultant working with individual children referred to her by teachers, learning mentors and the SENCO.
The Brain Gym® sessions with these children were highly successful.
Parents and staff were very impressed with the positive outcomes of children who had been struggling with a range of challenges, eg difficulty focussing on lessons in class, under-achievement in reading and maths, disruptive behaviour, low self-esteem.
Lisa has over 20 years primary teaching experience at a successful inner London School, for which she was Religious Education co-ordinator between 2001 and 2014. She is also the Staff Governor for a successful Federation of two primary schools. Lisa achieved Chartered London Teacher Status in 2004 and represented primary teachers in Lambeth SACRE between 2002 and 2004, becoming chair in 2013.
Her research was based on how children’s spirituality in community schools can be met. The aim of the research was to develop ways to nurture children’s spirituality through ‘Awe and Wonder’ experiences. This would, in turn, impact the very heart of community schools through their ethos and vision. Lambeth SACRE and Stockwell Primary School embraced her research. Lambeth SACRE funded a residential visit for a group of year 6 Jessop and Stockwell Primary pupils to a Woodland Trust Project in Kent. It also funded the making of the DVD called ‘The Wonder of it All’ based on the visit.
